All About Quilting OAAS Judging School
June 3, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies – District 13 will be hosting 3 judging schools in 2017.
“Creative Crafts – It’s Not All About Quilting” – Plympton Wyoming – Saturday, April 29, 2017
“Culinary Arts” – Ilderton – Saturday, May 6, 2017
“All About Quilting” – Brigden – Saturday, June 3, 2017
Each workshop will have interesting features and discussion topics. We hope you will encourage your homecraft committees, and exhibitors to also attend these judging schools. They are not just for incoming judges, apprentices or current judges that are upgrading. Individuals can become more informed about what judges are looking for and why items are placed the way they are. The judging schools will also help fairs to relook at their prize books in how classes are worded.
Sometimes Creative Crafts get lost at our judging schools. With the many new crafts that our exhibitors are interested in producing, we are approaching this topic on its own. We hope to have a wide assortment of craft items available for judging.
Many fairs have noted a shortage in the availability of Baking/Canning Judges. This Culinary Arts Judging School is also excellent for judges who are asked to handle children’s baking classes as part of a Junior Competition even if Culinary Arts may not be their forte. Hints on judging the new butter tart competition will also take place.
This year, the All About Quilting judging school will help learners to recognize the different styles of machine quilting (long arm, domestic, stitch regulated and Staedlter Stitching) as well as the variety of items that can be made from quilted fabric. The OAAS Judging Standards will also be discussed and which sections they apply to.
We look forward to seeing everyone. These judging schools are a great place to educate yourself on the new classes and items that we are seeing at our local fairs.
